Hi, I’m Dan.
Australian born and raised, and now living in Britain, I’ve always had a passion for wine; and not just drinking it! Sadly an allergy to alcohol meant that I’m limited in how much I could drink, so for me, it was definitely a case of quality over quantity.

An inquisitive mind, this has also lead to me focusing more on the story behind the bottle – delving deeper in to how wine is made and the people who enjoy it. Not one to do things in halves, I took a break from my career in Digital Marketing and dove head-first into studying wine. Firstly the Wine and Spirits Education Trust courses Level 2, then Level 3. I soon took the plunge with a Masters degree in Oenology and Viticulture at Plumpton College, focusing on consumer insight, sensory and sparkling wine production. Sure, it was pretty intensive, but by far not the worst subject! I graduated in 2020 with Distinction.

While I do enjoy the glitz and glamour of a high-brow wine tasting, I’m most happiest when found amongst the vines, getting my hands all shades of purple in the winery, or completely nerding out with winemakers and fellow wine lovers.

I created this blog with the hopes of sharing the stories of wine with you, what goes on behind the label and where your wine comes from. Wine and the language it speaks can be quite intimidating for the uninitiated, so I hope I can break down the pretentiousness that comes with it and make it enjoyed by more people.
A quick note on reviews…
Unless indicated, all the wines I have reviewed were bought out of my own pocket – not influenced by any producers. Those that do send me samples, my reviews are not subjected to editorial review.
I really hate scoring wines as to be honest, everyone has different tastes, and I’m definitely not renowned enough to score wines. But the star scores I do put up are more of an indication of how well it was put together, complexity and value for money. What you enjoy can be totally different!
